Thought I would share with you my decoration ideas for this year. This is my hallway wall. It very hard to get a good picture, so this doesn’t do it justice. It turned out really good. The balls look like they are floating.

This is the top of the piano. This is the swag that I won in the United Way silent action at work. (It’s the only way I’ll donate money to United Way).

This is the table center piece. I’m trying out on of the battery operated rice lights. It hard to seem them in the picture but they are in the bottom of the vase.

This is the coffee table in the living room.

This picture is not really very good, sorry. I decided that I didn’t want to put up a big tree this year, so I say these trees at Hobby Lobby and loved them. I think they would be so cute with some old fashion ornaments. (that will have to be next year)

Last by not least my stairway ledge. It turned out really cute with my subway art, the 3 glitter trees, the ornament wreath and don’t forget Santa.

I love how it all turned out. Now off to baking. Does anyone have any yummy recipes?

This is the story of a king. He was the king of a very small country, and he was a good king.

He decided to have a contest to see who could swim the length of his Olympic size swimming pool. The winner would receive half of the king’s treasure.

He invited everyone in his kingdom to come to his house. Everyone was so excited until they got there, only to find that the pool was filled with sharks, piranhas and alligators.

Several days went by and no one was willing to take the king’s challenge. On the fourth day, all of a sudden there was a huge splash.

Everyone turned to see a man swimming with all his might across the pool.

The whole kingdom cheered him on as he made it through the sharks. The man continued to swim as the piranhas nipped at him until finally he had made it through the alligators. He threw himself up on the side of the pool out of breath and exhausted.

The king was quickly at his side.

Congratulations, the king said, now you will be rich.

The man continued to catch his breath.

The king looked at the man again waiting for a response and asked what do you have to say about your new treasure?

The man still out of breath looked up at the king and said,

King, half of your treasure is great, but what I really want to know is…

WHO PUSHED ME IN?

Have you ever felt like the man in the swimming pool? I know I have. We try to be strong and happy, but sometimes, all we can think about is that we didn’t ask for the sharks, piranhas and alligators. It seems that someone has pushed us in and now we have to give it all our might to get through the trials and tribulations we are faced with. We have to exercise our faith and know that not only will the swim end, but we will be spiritually wealthier because of the challenge. And, we are promised all our King has when the journey is through.

We have all been faced with trials and uncertainties in our lives, and we will be faced with many more. It’s what we do when we are pushed in that determines what we are made of. We are so blessed. And at this time of Thanksgiving, it is important to put our focus on our blessings, not on the sharks.

I fell in love with the witch’s cauldron I saw on Eighteen 25, actually just the cute feet. I have no use for the cauldron itself since we don’t get any trick or treat-ers at our house.

So I stole the idea

They fit perfectly on my ledge with my subway art and some pumpkins I made with faces from my silhouette machine.

Just another close up of the witches feet on the ledge.

One of the things I like about it is this that nothing above the shoes is permanent, it could all be changed out. I actually thought that black roses would look really good, but the JoAnn’s by my house didn’t have any and I didn’t want to run all over town. Maybe I’ll do that next year.

Halloween Craft Time

Well it’s that time of year…..

Dust off the vinyl machine and get crackin’ at making Halloween fun stuff.

Here is what I whipped up the other day. The frame were free from my neighbors garage sale. I spray painted it black the sanded it a little. Cut the words and bats from vinyl and put the on top of the glass. If I was going to put this on a solid colored wall I would have not put anything behind the glass and just let wall show through but since I wanted to hang this on my outside door I needed something to put behind the glass. The picture was 11 x 14 so I couldn’t find any paper that I could put behind the glass without a seam so I decided to go with fabric. Found this cute spidery, glittery fabric and love how it looks.

Well I’ve been trying to get Alex to let me take Senior pictures all year. We are now down to 3 weeks to graduation, it’s crunch time. I dragged him out of the house but didn’t get him any further away than the backyard. He wasn’t the most cooperative model but we did get some good ones. Judge for yourself.

Those of you that are my age and grew up around here will remember the rooster tail at Lucky Peak that ran all the time. Back then it was an everyday thing and we all got very use to seeing it. Now they have changed the dam and they only push the water out through the rooster tail sometimes. Well it’s that time of year. Time to gather the ladies together to walk for a good cause. We met at 7:30, which according to Tori is “waaaayyyy to early”, at the corporate office for Albertsons for a light breakfast. Then we wandered around collecting items from the vendors. Notice how same our group is this year. Cheryl couldn’t join us because of her asthma, Jessie is pregnant so she was sick, Salena is just two big with her twins. So that just left the 5 of us. Finally it was time for the walk to start. We started down Parkcenter Blvd. Here is an aerial shot I downloaded from KTVB. Just to give you some idea of the amount of people that walked.Click on the picture to enlarge it. After the race we met Steve, Ryan, Zach and Hunter at IHOP for breakfast. As usual we had a great time. Hopefully next year everyone can join us.

March all ready!?!

It’s hard to believe that is March already. I’m soooo tired of the cold, gray, snow of winter and I’m soooooooo ready for spring. BRING ON THE SUNSHINE!!!!!!!!

What’s new at our house is the treadmill. A couple of years ago a quit Gold’s gym because of a several reasons:

1. It’s too big

2. Too many muscle heads

3. Too expense

I was able to get Tori and I both a membership at Fitness 19 and we really enjoyed going there. But they decided to close the gym by our house and the other one is way across town, so that didn’t work out. I found another small gym near home called ParKCenter fitness. Really enjoyed it for almost a year, but in December I went there to discover the doors locked. So I’ve been without a gym and been trying to figure out what to do. Decision made: I bought a treadmill for home and I love it……….. It’s great not to have go somewhere, I don’t have wait for anyone to get off of it, NO wasted travel time. This is what it looks like. It has a 7” TV, so you can hook the cable to and it has an IPOD attachment. I’m really enjoying it.

Survived Lay offs

I’m getting better and better at dodging bullets. Well, I’m not so sure that true but I did luck out again to keep my job. They did another big re-org at work this week and was saved. Our team did get moved under Vendor Management with a new Director and VP but I think that will be good. We really do belong with vendor management. This will be the first time in the 10 years I’ve been with Albertsons/Supervalu that I have had a different VP.

I’m optimistic that this will improve and that this was a good re-org.

CrAftInG DaY

Fun day doing fun crafting.

Started out with making sugar cookies. Tried my hand with decorating with royal icing but I got it too thick to do what I wanted so I just did squiggly lines. They don’t look too bad and they taste awesome!!!

I had to test them out. Didn’t want anyone getting sick………………

Next up on my fun crafting day…… I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday to use my 40% off coupon and found picture frames 50% off. I’ve been meaning to make these and since the frames were on sale, I just couldn’t pass it up.

New Laptop

Two weeks ago my laptop decided to go on vacation without getting permission. My wonderful baby brother did what he does best and diagnosed that it was the CPU. We priced some CPU’s and I would need a new battery as well, so we decided it was the same amount of money to just buy a new one.

So I did and it came today………….

Now I just need to get the data off of the other machine and get familiar with this new keyboard. Keys are just off a little from my other one.

A year in Review ~ 2010

As the year comes to an end I have decided to take a moment and reflect on the past year. I’ve tried do keep this blog updated this year so you have probably already read about our highlights, so I’m sorry if this is boring but I’ll try to cover things that I haven’t already covered.

Let me start with the baby, Alex. Al is 17 and a senior at Arts West (a private art school in Eagle, ID). This is his second year there and although he is struggling a little bit with Senioritis, I think he is still enjoying it. There for a while he was living with a friend in Eagle so that he would be closer to school, but we finally resolved the car situation and he now has his own transportation, so he’s back home with us. Not sure what he plans are for college yet but we are just being happy with the small success, such as graduating from high school. He helped his grandparent this summer with their shaved ice shacks, working events and helping grandpa make sugar water. He plans on getting some kind of job this summer. One of his friends that moved to California is moving back and I think they have big plans on getting their own place but it all depends on them both getting jobs.

Tori is into her sophomore year at BSU and still enjoying herself. She is in Alpha Chi Omega sorority and has the privilege of living in the house this year. Their house only has room for 5 girls, so you can only live there 1 year. Once school started she had issues with work schedule at Eddy’s Firewood Dogs, so she was able to get on back at McU’s with the condition that she would work on the retail floor as needed as well as in receiving. She prefers receiving but is getting more comfortable on the sales floor. She broke up with her boy friend at the end of school last May and doesn’t have a new one, which is fine with me. She plays intermural soccer with kids from school. I think her team did pretty well. See keeps pretty busy so I don’t get to see her that much, which I miss, but that’s part of them growing up. Dang it!

Dana is still working at McU’s and being grateful to still have a job. Some days he doesn’t like it much, but I think that’s true about every job. It was a rough year for Dana’s family this year. We lost his Mother Gerry to cancer this fall and Dana has to help deal with the family issues that arise with handling the estate. He’s sister Laura found out she has breast and is currently undergoing treatment. As you saw from my early post, he shaved his head in support. He did have his own check up last week and got a clean bill of health, so we are happy about that. He still like to spend time on the river in the summer on his fish cat.

Me, well I just completed my 10th year at Supervalu aka Albertsons. I’m still in IT but managing contractors. We currently has 1300+ that I’m trying to keep track of, it’s kind of like herding cats. Very thankful to still have a job. I’m started playing indoor soccer a couple of years ago and despite the fact that I’m not very good, I’m loving it. I look forward to our game every week. It’s a family team and I love playing with Tori. I keep busy in my spare time taking pictures and doing crafts. This summer I went to a Green reunion which was a blast. It was so wonderful to get to see cousins I haven’t seen in years. Also, made a trip to Lake Tahoe to see my niece Bri get married which was also fabulous. It’s been hard for me this year with trying to deal with my kids growing up and moving out but I’ adjusting.

I’m looking forward to see what wonderful things 2011 has in store for us.

Family update

Here is a little family update. Alex moved back home in November. Yah!!!!

Once we were able to get him his own transportation he decided that the living situation wasn’t the best and that he wanted to come home. At this point we are trying really hard to get him through this senior year and get him graduated. Here is a picture of him that I found on Art’s West website that was taken at retreat at the start of the school year. Those of you know Alex, know that he evades the camera, so I take the pictures that I can get when I can get them.

Women’s Fitness Celebration

This summer when we were in California for Bri’s wedding, Terri and I fumble the hand off of my small pocket camera and it took a tumble on the railroad tracks at the train museum. Which it apparently didn’t like because now it just complains when you turn it one. I’m going to have to buy a new one soon.

WHAT, you say, has this got to do with the Women’s Fitness Celebration???? Well, only that I didn’t want to take my big camera on the walk so we don’t have any pictures of us at the walk. I did spend about an hour looking through all the bazillion of pictures that the Idaho Statesman took to see if I could find us but I didn’t find a single one.

Therefore, I decided to just make my own. Here it is, the 4 of us walking in the Women’s Fitness Celebration. This has become a tradition for us each year, but this year we had some “wimp outs”. {Shawna, Sharlene, Cheryl, you know who you are……} I drove out to the mall to meet up with Salena and Jessie. We took the shuttle in to town, and met up with Terri. After the walk we take the shuttle back out to the Mall and met up with Steve, Shawna and Sharlene for breakfast. This time we went to Cracker Barrel instead of IHOP. Mmmmm it was delicious.

OH, this is Tori ……..

who was too tired from her Friday night to get out of bed to join us for the walk but she did manager to make it to breakfast.

You all missed out on some FUN!!!!!!

Hopefully, everyone will be able to join us in the spring for the Race for the Cure.

YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM my favorite!!!!!

We had a ladies craft night at Salena’s last Wednesday night. There was Jessie, Shawna, Sharlene, Cheryl, Marcie, a friend of Salena’s, Salena and myself {of course} were all there to start getting into the holiday season. We made these darling “Count down to Candy” advent blocks. It was a very fun evening.

Here are some pictures of mine. I deviated a little from some of the others. I decided to antique my block with Charcoal instead of brown. Just because Halloween is kind of dark. Also, I felt that the white numbers weren’t standing our enough, so I outlined them with the Sharpie {My favorite pen}.{Pictures are kind of dark, I need to work on my indoor camera skills. I have light issues}

My first Project

I completed my first project with my Silhouette……. I had a boring glass jar that I was using for a cookie jar, so I thought I would dress it a little……… {Sorry about the glare from the flash} Those of you who are fans of How Does She? will recognize my spin off of one of there ides. I just love all of the great ideas……

IT’S HERE……………

You should have seen me looking out the window every 5 minutes watching for the UPS man. {I missed him yesterday that’s how I knew it was coming.} Silly me, I didn’t order any colored vinyl. I got the white and the two heat transfer rolls that came with it but no other rolls. Does anyone know if you can buy the rolls local?

I did get is setup and but a some letters and a flower out of card stock. OH BOY!!!!!! I’m just so excite I don’t know what to do first. :P

Final Vinyl project finished

Here is the final vinyl project that I’ve been working on. I took the frameless picture idea for How Does She website and the “Family is:” wall display, merged the two ideas into one of my own.

I’m really excited about it because I can easily change out the pictures and they can be pictures of all sizes (even though I have all 4x’s up now). The pictures are held on by magnets that I made for Fall, which means I can change them out for different season. I can use it for displaying Christmas cards over the holiday. I think it turned out really cute. I have it in the hallway so it was hard to take the pictures, but it you click on the picture you will see a larger version.

It was fun to make and I LOVE IT!!!!

The Balloon rally was this weekend. I woke up at about 6:40 and decide to run over to Cresent Rim to take pictures. I was sure that I was late enough that I wouldn’t be able to find a parking place. To my surprise I was ahead of the crowd. I found an easy place to park and a short walk to the rim.

This was the jets that did the fly by to start the Rally.

I decided to keep my camera turned on and out on the passenger set as I drove home. It paid off. This balloon was sitting in the middle of rode when I got to the light at Protest Hill and Boise Ave.

My winnings.............. I entered in a drawing on How Does She and won $98 worth of colored twine from the Twinery and it came today. Look at how much I got. I'm going to get my creative juices going and come up with a project to use it on. If anyone need some for a project or have any ideas just let me know. I'll share. I think I have a lifetime supply. :) I'm just so excited.

We lost very special person this week. Dana's Mom Gerry Keyes Lewis lost her battle with cancer this week. This picture was take last June at Tori's Graduation party. We are going to miss her but we know that she is in a much happy place enjoy the company of God and all of her family that as preceded her. Just want to say,

"We love you, Grandma Gerry".

Completed Projects

I finally got my vinyl lettering, so I could complete a couple of projects that I started. This one is a prototype for some Christmas presents I'm going to make for Tori to give to her sorority sisters. I left it for here to put pictures of her sisters in it. I think it turned out very cute.

When I ask him how come I couldn't get a smile from him for this picture. He showed me the picture on his drivers license and said, "That's enough of a smile for any picture!..............

Now we just have to find him a car. Any one have a cheap beater of a car?!?

Tim McGraw

On July 29th, Tori and I had the amazing pleasure to go see Lady Antebellum and Tim McGraw concert. Tori took the camera but she didn't make sure the battery was charged, so all we had were our phones. As you can see we got more backlight than Tim.

Babies are so cute...

When we were in Lake Tahoe on Friday evening we took Zach and Hunter over to the pool about 9:30 pm. While they were swimming we noticed thew two baby raccoons running around the stairs that leads to the pool. All I had with me was my phone, so they are the best pictures. If you look closely right in the center of this picture you can see the two of them.

In the picture below the baby is running in front of the steps just left of the tree. This one is a little better, he is on the second step from the bottom. See how little he is. He wasn't very old.

bri & derek's wedding

Last weekend was bri & derek's wedding in Lake Tahoe. Mark put us up in a condo at the LakeLand Village resort which is where all the festivities took place. Friday night was a BBQ on the beach. It was beautiful! Saturday night was the wedding on the beach again. We did have a storm some in and made for some beautiful sunsets.

My baby girl moved out this week. I’m so incredibly sad, I can’t even put it into words.

Here is the aftermath of her moving.

Her Dad told her that she doesn’t get her deposit back if she doesn’t clean up her room. Why do I think that’s not going to happen. hahahaha Even though she wasn’t home very much, there is such a feeling of loneliness I can’t even describe.

OK I’ll stop wallowing in self-pity. Just think I get to go through this again in a week or so when Alex leaves. Wish me luck.

Timpanogos Cave

Last weekend we went to Utah for a family reunion. Some of us stayed over until Monday to hike up to Timpanogos Caves. Here we are getting ready to start.

Starting up the trail….I was a pretty steep climb. The hike is 1.5 miles and you climb 1175 ft. You are at 6875 ft when you get to the caves.

Here is Ryan and Shawna as we wait for our tour time. They assign you tour times when you purchase you tickets at the bottom, they you have an hour and 1/2 to climb the mountain.

This is our tour guide, she was very entertaining. You can see Steve and Shawna.

This is what they call the “Heart of Timpanogos”. It’s very large, you can’t get your arms around it. I think it does look a lot like a heart.

Some of the passages were very narrow.

This is a view of the Valley from outside of the caves. As you can see we were very high. Beautiful!!!!!

Girls Weekend

Spend the weekend in Sun Valley with the ladies..... Amy, Laurie, Betti, Diane and Linda. All but Diane were Soccer Mom's. Laurie has a house is Sun Valley and does these ladies weekends every so often. This is the first that I've been able to go. Left Boise Friday afternoon, got there about 7:00, we had dinner reservations at Sobe's at 8:00. This picture was taken at the restaurant. (not my best picture but when do I take a good picture?!). After dinner we went out to a few bars to do some pool playing and dancing. Had a good time watching the interactions of other people.

Saturday, we full of hiking, swimming and just hanging out. We decided to eat in, and Linda made this absolutely wonderful Cobb Salad. After dinner we watched "Heartbreakers", funny movie. 4 out the ladies decided to go out at 11:00pm but I didn't feel like going out again. As it was they weren't gone more than an hour. They said it was dead.

Sunday morning we had a leisure breakfast went for another hike, packed up an came home. It was a very fun weekend of visiting and spending time with good friends. Now it's time to get ready to go back to work. Wish the weekends were longer.

……is what we are celebrating today. I must say they haven’t all been roses and caviar. Actually I don’t think we’ve ever had any caviar, oh well maybe that’s yet to come in our ‘golden years’. We have had some amazing times, unforgettable times (both good and bad), we have two amazing, beautiful children and hopefully at least another 30 years together. We decide to party two days, the 3rd and the 4th. On Saturday, we met a Ryan and Terri’s house, then invaded the pool at Columbia Village. It was a little cool for some of us adults (me) to get in the water but the kids had a blast. Cayton and Ayden had fun with the goggles and snorkel. Deacon thoroughly enjoyed himself in the floatation device. Bentley, well, she took a head dive under the water to start with and so it took her a while to warm up, but eventually she had a as much fun as everyone else. Steve rode him bike down to the pool to meet us. The rest of us adults just enjoyed the sun and watching the kids.

We eventually dragged the kids out of the pool and went back to Ryan’s to BBQ. While the food was cooking, the kids jumped on the trampoline. We had some delicious salads, bbq chicken, hamburger and hot dogs. Yummmmmm, good food. After eating some of started a game of Mexican train. Those of you not familiar with Mexican train, its a domino games. Finally, it got dark enough to start fire works in the Cul de sac. Most of the kids enjoyed them a lot, but some (mainly Miss Bentley) would have preferred skipping them.

Sunday, after people went to church they bbq’d at Jessie and Skyler’s. I didn’t go to dinner, but I went out later. We visited and watched John Wayne until it was time to go to the Fireworks. We watch the beautiful display put on by the Meridian Speedway. Returned to Steve’s house to light off more fireworks, the kind Steve buys. I was tired and it was 11:30 so I bailed out and went home but I’m sure it was entertaining. I took a ton of pictures on Saturday, so look through the album at some of them. Had a perfectly fabulous time with family. Love the 4th.

Morning walk

Went for my morning walk today, but decided instead of the extra long route to stay on this side of the river (south side). Down between the river and the houses they build at Bown Crossing is a overflow pond from the river. This was put in to prevent flooding when the river is too high. Came across this beautiful swan swimming in the pond. All I had was my phone, so it's not the best picture. I'll have to go back with my big camera.Turns out there were actually 6 of them.

You're going to be a beautiful Bride.

Today at Cottonwood Grille I attended a bridal showers for my niece Brianne (Mark's oldest daughter). This is her in the white dress. It was a beautiful day to sit on the patio enjoying a nice lunch, visiting with family and celebrating Bri's upcoming big day.

Here she is opening her presents. She got some really fun things, like this picnic bag. Everyone was teasing her about it being a baby diaper bag. But is was a really cool picnic bag that Becky gave her. Her Grandma on her mother's side made her a very cute apron. This is her Mom ~ Shelly (in the pink) Don't they look alike?

Becky and Addie were there. Isn't this patio view gorgeous? We even had this big bully frog appear on the pond for a few minutes.

Jessie, Megan and Salena were there, so was Sharlene but I didn't get her in a picture. I didn't take my camera, so I just snapped a few shots with my phone.

The party was a little late getting started due to the bride's party and more that 1/2 the guest getting stuck behind the Gay Pride Parade on the way to the restaurant. Her wedding is scheduled for Aug 7 in Lake Tahoe. Booked my tickets yesterday, so it should be a fun time. I just need to go shopping to get a really cute summer dress to wear at the wedding on the beach. I'll make sure to take my camera for that and have lots of pictures to share.

Some times hard work does pays off.

At work every quarter the VP has an All-Hands meeting. As part of this meeting they hand out 3 excellence awards and 1 excellence VP award. This award is for the individual who has demonstrated clear superior performance excellence during the quarter related to customer service, leadership execution, accountability, initiative and partnership across the organization.

This quarter was I received the excellence VP award, boy was I surprised.

Oh, I got a $25.00 gift certificate for the store as well.

Weight loss challenge finale tonight and the winner is......

Not me :(

At least not one of the money winners. But I am a winner of feeling great, having more energy and getting better on the soccer field (or at least thinking I'm getting better). Please don't burst my bubble about that one.

Seriously, I lost 24.6 lbs in 24 weeks, so averaged a pound a week. I'm happy with that. Some of the winners didn't lose much more than me in weight but they were over 20% weight loss, I was only 11%. I still feel great about the progress and I plan to lose at least the same amount in the last 6 mths of the year. This a life style change.

She does really likes working at Eddies and they are probably just going to give her about 20 hours so she was going to talk to McU's about getting some hours from them. She is planning to move into the Sorority house this fall so needs as much money as she can get.

Salena's baby turned 1.

And she went all out.

Had a carnival theme. Sent out invitation that looked like tickets and included wrist bands for everyone in the family to wear. She had carnival games setup for the kids to do. There was a dart throw, pick-a-duck, squirt guns to knock off ping pong balls. The kid got tickets for each activity then they could trade them in at the candy store. There was a bouncy house for the kids to burn off some of the sugar.

What's a carnival without food???

There was hot dogs, nachos, lemonade, popcorn and pretzel.

I think it was a fun time for all!

I'm just curious how she's going to top that............

Race for the Cure

We pulled together a record number of walkers in our group this year ~10!!!

Here is the whole gang. Aren't we great looking group!?! We signed up under Supervalu's team and they have a breakfast in the Atruim of our building on Parkcenter. We had yogurt parfaits, mini bagels & muffins. Yum Yum .. They have raffle items and Tori won a candle.
It was a chilly overcast morning but no rain ~ Yeah!!!!

Salena, Justine and Shayna ran the race. The rest of us walked. They had over 16,000 participants this year, so it was really crowded and slow walking. We got split up. Tori, Marcie and Cheryl got ahead of Terri, Shawna and myself.

After the race we met up with Lynn, Steve, Ryan and Hunter at IHOP for lunch. We all had a great time for a great cause. The next one will be the Women's Fitness Challenge in September, plan to come join us. We would love to have you.

Treasure Valley weight loss update

I missed doing the update for the start of May. It might have been a freudian slip since I didn't have a very good month. I only lost 3 pounds, but it was a loss. We have to be happy for the small victories. We are down to the last 6 weeks to the final weight and I'm trying to hit it hard. I don't think I have a snowball's chance in...well you know where.... but I'm going to see it through.

Well, it is that time again, when I get to go step on the scale. This month was definately a little slower for me however I did manage to lose 6 lbs. That still is over a pound a week so I shouldn't be disappointed. That puts me at about 9.8%. At this rate I won't be a money winner. I need to pick up the pace, just not sure how to do that.

Monthly update time

Well, it's the start of a new month, so that means weight-in time. So I thought I'd give you an update on my progress. I lost 8 pounds this month. Yeah Me! My goal was 10 pounds a month but that might have been a little optomistic. So far I've lost 14 lbs for a 6.28%. weight loss. I think that I need to pick up the pace a little if I want to win the money, but I am please with the results so far.

Oh, BTW, this is my future body. :)

Confession Time

At the start of January, I made a decision to enter the Humphrey's Diabetic $10,000 weight loss challenge. It runs until June 17th and the women and man who loses the highest percentage weight loss will win $3,000, second place is $1,500 and third place is $500. To stay qualified you need to weigh in once a month. Saturday was my first month's weight in. I was hoping for 10lbs, but I'll take 6.2. If I can get to my goal weight that will be a 28% loss. The lady who won last year had a 31% loss. There were a lot of people that were there to sign up and some were very large so I know I have my work cut out for me, but I love a challenge. So wish me luck and I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Tori girl did a great job her first semester of College and made the Dean's list with honors. I'm very proud of all her hard work. With sorority and everything that she had going on she still managed to keep up with her studies.

The Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle,
When 24 hours in a day is not enough;
remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class
and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly,
he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
and start to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
it into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.
He then asked the students again
if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand
and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded
With an unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table
and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively
filling the empty space between the sand.
The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - God, family,
children, health, friends, and favorite passions
Things that if everything else was lost
and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --
The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued,
'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are
important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time
to clean the house and fix the dripping tap

'Take care of the golf balls first --
The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand
and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.

'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

2009 Jones Tour of Homes

Sunday was our traditional Jones Tour of Homes for year 2009. For those of you that don't know, we have a family tradition that we do on the second Sunday of December. We go around to a select number of families houses and get to see their Christmas decorations. The year it was my turn to plan the event. For the family gift exchange I choose a dessert exchange. We schedule food at every one's house. We started at Darrin's, went to Sharlene's, then Lynn's, our house for the main course, next to last was Ryan's then we finished up at Mom & Dad's. It's always a full day but we have a good time. Enjoy the slide show.

You know who you are............ Just want to let you know that we won 9 - 3 without you. From our team we only had, Ryan, Shawn, Ty, Megan, Tori and myself. Thanks to Tori bringing her boyfriend Rudy and one of her sorority sisters Shandra we had enough to have one sub. Which we used for both the boys and girls. It was a fast game and poor Shawn had a really hard time playing as much as he had to. We had Ty play as keeper. Rudy played in defense and he did a great job. Believe it or not, I even scored a beau-ti-ful goal (pat, pat - me patting myself on the back). It even looked like I knew what I was doing out there. Assist goes to Shawn for a great pass. Megan scored, Shandra scored twice and Ryan took Tori's goal from her. Other than being a hard game it was a lot of fun. At least I thought so. ;)

Today being Friday the day before Halloween, our office does their annual Halloween party. They have pumpkin carving contest, costume contest, treats and in the afternoon they open up for all the little kids to come to the building in trick or treat. This year we (my team) decided we would dress up. In order to appreciate our costumes with out being offended you need to remember that I work for SUPERVALU aka Albertsons.

October winding down

I can't believe that we are headed into the last week of October already. Next week is the end of the first quarter of school for Alex. He really is enjoying this school. They gave all the sophomores and juniors the PSAT last week. I'm anxious to see how he did on them. They are having college week this coming week and they had 4 colleges that are coming to the school for a visit.

Tori is loving BSU and sorority life. They have so many activities and projects that keep her busy, plus she has made so many new friends. From what she tells me her grades are all A's and B's so I can complain. She had a new boy. I don't think they are officially yet. But she is spending a lot of time with him. I haven't met him but she showed me his picture on FB. He seems to treat her well (so far) that's a plus. There is a minus, he is 22 and a senior. Not to worry, it's Tori and I don't thinks she's gone with a boy for more than two months.

I'm having a blast playing indoor soccer and I just want to send out a great BIG Thank You to my nieces and nephews for putting up with the old, unskilled player. Sometimes I think I'm just in the way out there, but everyone is very tolerate to my face. How I wish I could have learned to play this game when I was younger.

With all the cold and flu that is going around, I hope and pray that everyone is taking good care of themselves and staying healthy.

I want to take the time to let everyone know how much I love you all and wouldn't trade any of you for anything. You all mean the world to me, so take care of you!!!!!

Miss coding

A couple of weeks ago the application support team that I used to work for ask me if I had some time in my schedule to help them get some of there issues off of their issues log. I haven't done any coding for 5 years, but I told them I would talk to my boss. She said I could help them out but she was the priority. Well, I actually got to spend some time today getting back into it. I was amazed at how much my fingers remembered. I say that because there were times when I couldn't think of what the commands were but my magic fingers would just type them. Goes to show how amazing our brains are.

I'm actually kind of excited about getting to do it again. I didn't realize how much I missed it.

As for me, I celebrate family............ I love my family and throughly enjoy spending time with them. Every minute we spend together is precious and valuable. I'm been so blessed to have such a wonderful family.

One of the things we like to do is participate in the Women Fitness Celebration walk. We were missing a few this year, like Jessie, Cheryl, Terri, Mom, Justine, Shayna. Hope you can plan to join us next year. We do have fun.Had two little munchkins to help us walk this year, Bentley and Kaid.Traditionally, we meet the men at IHOP after the walk for breakfast. However, Steve was the only one that could join us this year. This is a picture of one side of the table.
